1. Why has tantra been distorted in the West? Why is so much emphasis put on the sexual aspect?
    
   Vendors of sex-tantra (also known as neo-tantra) have managed to convince the public that the so-called sexual aspect of tantra is all there is. But there is no sexual aspect to tantra -- only the life-affirming, all-embracing aspect, which accepts sexual energy as one of many. In a way, we should welcome neo-tantra because it attempts to free sexual energy from all the neuroses imposed on it by authoritarian religions. Yet, the general public is not aware that there exist a bounty of authentic tantric teachings in the West. In any bookstore, there are many authentic tantric books. They are just not located in the expected, i.e., New Age section. Tantric institutions are also well-established and are found in every major location in the West. And, if you are practicing yoga (asanas, mantra, and meditation), then you are following tantric teachings.
