Philosophical Questions

1. How does our personal ignorance (or tendency to sin) account for such large-scale "evil" events as natural disasters or the bombing of the World Trade Center?
    
   The Universe teaches by repeatedly giving us an opportunity to look at our ignorance. This provides our free will with an opening, a gateway, to choose more effective, happier, higher ways of being.
   
   When many people have similar issues they may create a collective thought form, which may call for a teaching delivered to a group. World hunger, violent ways, destructive religious dogmas -- all can be removed almost instantly with a little thought reform (well, make it a thought revolution). And we should accept that sometimes the Spirit will use us to teach someone else, and the experience may be willing or unwilling, enjoyable or painful, conscious or not so.
    
2. Was there a time when we were as "in tune" with our true Self as we are with, say, the act of breathing today?
    
   Yes, we were. And we are now. We just focus on the backyard now. This does not mean that we do not enter and exit the house through the front door everyday. We just fell in love with the outhouse.
    
3. How did we get to the point we're at today -- needing to take a Path in order to find our way "home"?
    
   Believe me, where we were before was worse. The past just looks better now because we do not know how fortunate we are to be alive here and now.
    
4. If we've always been one with the All, how did all the "noise" in our heads come to separate us from this Knowledge?
    
   This noise is very important. It adds spice to life. There is no problem with water if you accept that it exists and learn how to swim. So the question should be more about controlling, rather than taming, the noise. I have learned to enjoy my noise -- it is entertaining.
    
5. Are there more and less "advanced" paths, and different stages of the Path, or are these misconceptions?
    
   We cannot understand the answers until we understand the questions. We may say that the progression of these questions forms a natural hierarchy. Understanding questions and learning the answers takes time. Doing spiritual practices and working with competent teachers can accelerate the process.
