Question: Is there a difference between (tantra yoga) meditation and prayer? Comment: Yes and no. Prayer is the first stage or an initial approach to meditation. If in prayer you are asking the Supreme Being to lead you along the right path, meditation happens when you are already moving along the true path. Meditation is a method to access the insight and wisdom which lie hidden in your Divine Nature. It is a form of spiritual training that will help you find contact with God and harmony between body, mind and God. While in prayer you address the Supreme, in meditation you begin to learn to listen to God and follow His will, i.e. His plans which He especially created for you. (Of course, God is neither He, She or It.) To ask God about something material heal me, give me a new car, kill my enemy is sacrilege. The Lord is omniscient He knows your problem. You need not pester Him by reminding Him of this He is already taking care of you. To ask Him about such petty things is to flaunt your faithlessness in his face! That is why the only prayer that is worth doing for a spiritual person is: "Give me insight to know and the ability to follow Your will." Anatole |
